For each category of measurement (e.g., Length, Mass), we define a single "base unit," typically the standard SI unit. This ensures all our unit converter tools are accurate and consistent.
- For Length, the base unit is the meter.
- For Mass, the base unit is the kilogram.
- For Temperature, the base unit is Celsius.
When you convert from one unit to another (e.g., feet to inches), we perform a two-step process:
- Convert to Base: The input value (feet) is first converted to the central base unit (meters).
- Convert from Base: The result (meters) is then converted to the final target unit (inches).
This method ensures accuracy and consistency by preventing compounding errors. Our conversion factors are based on standards from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
